How to treat severe acne

Acne or acne vulgaris is one of the most common skin disorders which is caused by overproduction of oil by the sebaceous gland. Acne is not considered to be something serious because often it disappears on its own by the end of teenage. However there are instances of people with acne which does not heal itself despite repeated treatments. This kind of acne is called severe acne. * Isotretinoin: It is a man made Retinoid ; a form of vitamin A. When acne does not respond to topical creams or other medications, this potent drug is used. Available in capsule form, it works wonders for treating severe acne. As it has some serious side effects, it is not recommended to pregnant and breast feeding women. It may cause harm to the fetus. It has some other side effects as well therefore should not be taken without expert advice.
* Oral antibiotics: these are known to treat severe acne very effectively. Anti biotics are very effective in reducing the population of P.acne which results in reducing inflammation to a great extent. Usually the treatment starts with very high dosage of antibiotics but is later reduced to moderate dosage depending upon its effect on the severe acne.
* Oral contraceptives: these are highly effective in suppressing the overproduction of oil by sebaceous glands which results in curing acne. These can be taken for their normal contraceptive purpose. Acne treatment is just a side effect to these pills. It should never be taken with the sole purpose of curing severe acne. It is best to take advice from your gynecologist before taking it.

Apart from the above mentioned prescription drugs there are several natural anti acne creams which may work for treating severe acne as well. You must try a few of them as there are no side effects.
